We all struggle with the inner battle of having to pay the bills and wanting that new thing but at the same time wanting to feel like we’re making a difference and living for something meaningful. We have to ask ourselves - 'What are we living for?’ Until I found my purpose and found myself, I was living paycheck to paycheck, miserable at my office job and I saw no way out. I was living in survival mode. I think a lot of times, God places us in certain places and environments for a reason, whether it's to grow you or for you to be a light for someone else.
If you’re living in survival mode, establish your purpose and create a game plan for how you’re going to fulfill that. Baby steps each day is great progress. Don’t cop out with the old, “I’m too busy.” excuse. If you want things to be different, you have to do things differently.
I’ve labored to no purpose. I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing.
Isaiah 49:4
Make goals for yourself. 6-month goals are great because they're within reach. Make them realistic but also challenging. Make a list:
Things I Want to Have:
1.
2.
3.
Who I Want to Be:
1.
2.
3.
What I Want to Experience:
1.
2.
3.
The last time I made a list like this was in April 2015, I just picked up the old notebook that I had written this in and I had achieved all but one of them. (If you're wondering what it was, I've had a long time dream of racing off road trucks. And I may have finally grown out of it now that I have kids.) The bottom line is, when you have a plan, you know where you're going. And if you need the facts, people who write down their goals regularly are 46% more likely to achieve their goals than people who do not. It's fun! Just do it!
Commit your plans to the Lord and your plans will be established.
Proverbs 16:3
After you've plotted your success, define what you're going to take away from your current situation and focus on where you're going. Now get to it girlfriend!
